The Rise And Fall Of 5 Bands From The 90's

One day we loved them, but then, they just vanished.

    1. Aqua

Everyone remembers Aqua. The Danish bubblegum pop band that burst into the 90's with their song "Barbie Girl". Going to Number 1 in most countries and even making it to Number 7 in the States. If you weren't around to hear it, here's what you were missing.

    2. 5ive

The 90's was a breeding ground for all sorts of boy bands. This led to the aptly named five-piece "5ive" making an appearance in 1998.

Being one of many "manufactured" bands from the era, Britain's very own Russel Brand was one of the people auditioning for them only to not make the cut. We can only assume that he coped with this by trying to have sex with everything that existed for the subsequent 20 years.

Their biggest hit was "When The Lights Go Out" in 1998, making in into the US Top 10, and then suffering an exponential decline and eventually calling it a day in 2001.

    3. Vengaboys

Hailing from the grownups playground that is Amsterdam, the Vengaboys were the 90's answer to "The Village People". Most famous for "We Like To Party" in 1998, coming in at 26 in the US Top 100 and having mixed success globally.

If you don't recognize the name, you will the song "Mambo No. 5". Coming out in 1999, it went to Number 1 in almost every country it was released in, bar the US where it reached number 3.

    5. Eiffel 65

Another band that's name doesn't come to mind straight away, but their 1999 song "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" went to Number 6 in the US and Number 1 across most of Europe. Again, another one of the 90's Europop style songs that burned brightly, but only for a short time. It does still have a huge following, with the video below having been seen almost 50 million times on YouTube.
