7 Mental Health Resources For When You're Feeling Helpless

    It's National Suicide Prevention Day in the UK. Here are places you can reach out to if you need help, support, or advice.

    1. Samaritans – Call 08457 90 90 90 * or email jo@samaritans.org.

    The Samaritan's helpline is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

    You can reach out about anything that's troubling you, no matter how big or small the issue. Instead of making a phone call, you can also write about your feelings in an email to jo@samaritans.org.

    The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) charity offers support specifically to men of any age.

    If you are feeling down or in crisis, CALM can support you through its helpline, which is open between 5pm and midnight seven days a week. There is also a a web chat service available on its website.

    3. Students Against Depression

    "Everything is going to be alright - maybe not today but eventually"

    Students Against Depression is a website for students who are feeling down or depressed.

    Although it does not have a helpline, this organisation provides a number of useful resources on its website, including blog posts from students who have overcome depression, and guides for helping others who might be feeling down.

    4. Papyrus – Call 0800 068 41 41, send a text message to 07786 209697, or email pat@papyrus-uk.org.

    Papyrus is a support service for teenagers and young adults up to the age of 35.

    Papyrus has a helpline called HOPELineUK (0800 068 41 41), which is available Monday to Friday between 10am and 10pm, weekends between 2pm and 10pm, and bank holidays between 2pm and 5pm. Alternatively, you can send an email to pat@papyrus-uk.org, or a text to 07786 209697.

    5. ChildLine – Call 0800 1111 or sign up to email a counsellor.

    ChildLine is a support service for anyone under the age of 18. If you're feeing low, worried about something, or need help or advice, call ChildLine on 0800 1111.

    The helpline is always open, phone calls are free, and the number will not show up on your phone bill. You can also use its online chatroom, where you can talk to a ChildLine counsellor for help and support.

    All conversations between you and ChildLine are kept confidential, which means no one will find out about anything you say.

    6. Depression Alliance

    Depression Alliance is a charity for people felling lonely, isolated, or depressed. Although Depression Alliance does not have a helpline, you can find lots of useful resources on its website.

    Depression Alliance can help you find self-help groups in your local where you can share your experiences of depression and learn more about treatment and recovery.

    The website also gives you information about how to join Friends in Need, a supportive community both online and offline for people living with depression.

    7. Bullying UK – 0808 800 2222

    Bullying UK provide various support services, including a helpline open 24/7, an advice website, and support groups for discussing parenting and relationships.
