Here are 6 steps you can take to help ensure that when you go to a salon and ask for Shellac you get the authentic CND Shellac service and not an alternate service the salon prefers not to admit to using.

Find a clean, quality salon

First and foremost check that the environment is clean, the files are new or disinfected, any tools to be used are clean, and that there is not any debris floating in the disinfectant jar or container. No matter what nail service you are after, if any of these are out of place leave.

Some salons may try to trick you by using one component of the CND Shellac system. Ask to see the CND Shellac and lamp, look to be sure you clearly see the CND on the lamp, the base coat, color coats, and top coat. CND Shellac is a brand not a service, don't be fooled!

Know what cuticle is NOT

If you have made it this far, then you are ready to hand over your fingers to the nail professional at the table. Your eponychium should not be cut or trimmed, only the cuticle removed. This is true for any nail service you may go for!

Don't get buffed!

Your nails should not be soaked in a bowl of water at the beginning of your service nor acetone. Either liquid will swell the nails making it more likely they will start to peel. This is also why your nail professional will ask you to wear gloves when washing dishes, etc. Removal of CND Shellac should be done via some form of wrapping the fingers either with a custom wrap, cotton and foil, or device like ProTipClips. No matter the fingernail service, just say no to the bowl. Pedicures are another story, another day!
