The Mets had a chance to dump him clean for $5.9M and instead will get burned for $29.8M down the line, at a time when their books are strained more than ever. Nothing wrong with trying to invest and chance a good ROI, but relying on Bernie Madoff to get you there can’t even remotely be seen as smart or insightful investing. It’s a cautionary tale for sports franchises (and business owners, by and large) and a radical but brilliant move by a man thinking about his own future. Don’t think I’d consider any of that “meaningless,” but thanks for reading.
