The video begins when Benjamin's wife Lyndsey holds her firstborn child for the first time, four days after his birth.
Ward Miles Miller was 12 inches long and weighed 1 pound, 13 ounces when he was born, but dropped to 1 pound, 7 ounces in the following days.
“One doctor told us straight up the first night that there was a 50/50 chance that he would be normal,” Benjamin said. “We definitely prayed and prayed.”
After 107 days in the NICU, Ward's parents were finally able to bring him home.
Now, more than a year later, Ward is healthy and developing normally, to the delight of his parents. Benjamin presented the moving video of their son's first year to Lyndsey on Oct. 31, the one-year anniversary of Ward's homecoming.
"I want to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff all over the world that make it their life's mission to help babies get better," Benjamin wrote in the video's description. "It's because of you that my son ever stood a chance to make it home!"
