10 Pop Stars Who’ve Filed For Bankruptcy

They broke the charts, and then they broke the bank.

1. Aaron Carter.

In November 2013, Nick Carter’s younger brother, Aaron, filed for bankruptcy after racking up over $2,00,000 in debt.

2. Blue.

Simon Webbe of Blue filed for bankruptcy in October 2013, less than a month after his bandmate, Duncan James, declared himself broke.

3. Toni Braxton.

Despite selling 66 million records worldwide, the “Unbreak My Heart” singer has filed for bankruptcy twice - first in 1998, and then again in 2010.

4. Kerry Katona.

Kerry Katona of the recently reunited Atomic Kitten filed for bankruptcy for a second time in July 2013, after first going broke in 2008.

5. La Toya Jackson.

Michael wasn’t the only Jackson in financial disarray - in 1995, La Toya also filed for bankruptcy after finding herself $700,000 in debt.

6. Shane Filan.

Despite fronting one of the most successful boybands of all time, Westlife’s Shane Filan filed for bankruptcy after becoming a victim to Ireland’s property crisis in 2012.

7. Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins.

The TLC singer filed for bankruptcy not once, but twice in 2011, after discovering she owed creditors up to $800,000.

8. Marvin Gaye.

Marvin Gaye filed for bankruptcy in 1976 after a court ruled he owed $600,000 worth of royalties from his album, Here, My Dear, to his former wife.

9. Cyndi Lauper.

The “Time After Time” singer filed for bankruptcy in 1981 after her first band, Blue Angel, disbanded and she had to take up a career in retail.

10. MC Hammer.

In 1996, after years of lavish spending, the “U Can’t Touch This” icon found himself an incredible $13,000,000 million in debt, forcing him to file for bankruptcy.
