You gather some current girl friends and get super amped about starting your own group
You begin spreading the word to some acquaintances and they either get on board or get super skeptical
You get everyone together to start doing bonding activities but there's always that girl who is too overwhelmed by the amount of estrogen in the room
Every meeting there's one or two girls who left and perhaps a new girl to take their place! This is a very erratic time for learning names
Some women from National come in and teach you all about letters, dues, ethics, this, that, and the other thing during a day long SUPER bonding sesh. This is when you realize how much work needs to be done.
You had your fun but now...OMG STUDYING FOR NATIONAL EXAM
During your now actual in-classroom chapter meetings you take graded quizzes. You always get chastised for not remembering the sorority's oath but OMG WHATEVER I MISSED TWO WORDS. CUT ME SOME SLACK, GIRL.
It's the day of the exam...everyone's freaking out.
One hour later....YAY EVERYONE PASSED! WE'RE ALL IN A SORORITY NOW!
The celebration is short-lived...other greek groups don't take you very seriously at first so now you gotta flaunt how serious this venture is for you all. Some girls don't take this to heart so you need to straighten them out.
And then YAY you're all friends and doing community service stuff together and meeting even MORE people!
Organization at first is a total headache and there are points when you take a step forward and then 3 steps back.
Plus all of your Bigs live in a totally different part of the country. Bonding with them is a bit more difficult but their advice is like a breath of fresh air.
And there are girls who don't know what the hell they're doing and freak out when they realize they forgot to send in a form and OH NO D:
But that will all come together as we go along...IT'S TIME FOR OUR FIRST RUSH!
You take in a huge group of girls to make up for the small collective that makes up the founders and keeping track of them causes minor meltdowns sometimes but THEY'RE YOUR BABIES AND YOU LOVE THEM!! Be proud, the sorority is a success!
Despite all the turmoil and difficult moments and girls leaving throughout the experience...
You meet some of your best friends in the entire world. Future roommates, partners in crime, and future bridesmaids. Plus YOU FOUNDED A SORORITY TOGETHER. Not everyone in college gets to say that.
