Tom The Mongoose McEwen Truck & Duster Funny Car Restored By Don The Snake Prudhomme

One of the best rivalries of all time was between the Funny Car duo of Don "The Snake" Prudhomme and Tom "The Mongoose" Mcewen. The Snake, in his yellow Plymouth Barracuda, and The Mongoose in his red Duster were the biggest thing in drag racing from the mid 60s to the early 70s. Their rivalry peaked in 1970 when "Mattel Hot Wheels" sponsored their match races and the duo formed "Wildlife racing Inc."

A few years ago Prudhomme found and restored his famous Dodge D-700 Ramp Truck. Then he searched for his buddie's truck and actually found it - complete with the original VIN that listed the original owners - Sox & Martin - the famous drag racing team who originally purchased the truck in 1967. Mcewen bought the truck in 1970 and sold it years later...only to be recovered and restored by The Snake in 2010. We were lucky enough to see this truck and Funny Car as it entered the building for the Hot Rod Magazine 65th Anniversary celebration. Look close and you'll see Don Prudhomme driving the truck!
