Which Major League Baseball Team Should You Actually Root For In The Playoffs?

Despite finding themselves in a division with both the Red Sox and the Yankees, this year, the AL East belongs to the Orioles, who last won a World Series title in 1983. In fact, this is the first division championship for the birds since 1997.

You can't help but love the Tigers. This team has been around the block a few times appearing two of the last ten World Series, but the Tigers haven't won it all since 1984. Is 2014 the year?

The Detroit Tigers

The Detriot Tigers have all but dominated the AL Central for the past several seasons and the Royals have been stuck at the bottom of the league. The Royals are the ultimate underdogs of this year's playoffs, making their first postseason appearance since they won it all in 1985.

Led by virtuoso outfielder Mike Trout, the Angels were the first team to clinch a spot in the 2014 playoffs. The franchise's only World Series title was won back in 2002. After 20 losing seasons, the Pirates shocked the baseball world by making the playoffs last season. Now, Andrew McCutchen and the Bucs are back hoping to bring another championship to Pittsburgh. The last time the Pirates won was all the way back in 1979.

The Pittsburgh Pirates

The Giants have won two of the last five World Series titles (2012 and 2010), and, with much of their core staff retained, could be poised to establish this era in San Francisco as a dynasty.

The San Francisco Giants

The Redbirds lost to the Red Sox in last year's World Series, and despite taking home a title back in 2011, one has to assume that Yadier Molina and company will be looking for redemption this time around.

The St. Louis Cardinals 

The Washington Nationals, including their time as the Montreal Expos, have never made it to the World Series, let alone win one. In fact, you would have to go back to 1924 before you would find a World Series championship won by a team hailing from the nations capital. Has D.C. waited long enough for World Series glory? It's up to Bryce Harper and the rest of the Nationals to decide.
