Bellaluna a year agoOkay, with most of the reasons makes no sense. But the two that ignores common sense is Blubber and Where’s Waldo (Wally.) With Blubber, “the villain is never punished for her cruelty.” I hate to say it, but the real world is not a book or movie (unless it’s a non fiction book and a documentary,) and sometime bullies get away with it (not all the time, just sometimes.) And Where’s Wally, kids aren’t looking for boobies, they’re looking for wally or Waldo, or whatever the hell his name is.

corys2 a year agoI found the title “Banned Books” to be SO misleading as a kid, I had the idea that the US government didn’t want ANYONE reading those books at one point and I lived in a time that just recovered from a Fahrenheit 911-esque society.
Why don’t we call miniskirts and tube tops banned clothes?! -

rachel707 a year agoI recently read the Hunger Games books and was honestly shocked it was listed as Young Adult fiction. Fantastic book but I can see a whole lot of kids not prepared for the content. Then again, having a piece of literature open up new topics and ideas seems way better than putting sheltered adults out into the “real world” or worse yet, having to experience bad things first hand.

Diana a year agoMy bookstore has the Twilight books in the childrens’ section. A teenage fiction section exists, but it’s right smack in the middle of childrens’ lit. I’m no prude, and I think children should absolutely be sexually educated and encouraged to learn about it… but really? Twilight? For kids younger than teenagers? Next to pat the bunny?

Douglas Heidland a year agoOther than the Twilight series, which is literary trash, I am going to go out and buy the three of these that I don’t already own just to be sure that my kid has them available for reading.

silverblink a year agodespite this article, many of these books weren’t “banned” but “challenged”. when someone has a problem with a book, they fill out a complaint, it then goes to the board and they look at the library’s collection development policy. this document tells board how to act when this kind of situation arises. for the most part, they look at the book and basically try to justify it being in the collection. most books do not get banned because they have a legitimate reason for being in the collection. (but some DO get banned, thanks bible belt) speaking of which, the bible has been challenged! (ya, i went to library school (MSLS)

zacharylazerfacem a year agoBanning books should be banned. It’s a violation of the constitution. yes, even for twilight. I actually like this Twilight craze. I think it’s sort of ridiculous, but I like knowing that as a culture there’s still things that teenaged girls will scream uncontrollably at.

SoShia a year agoI remember in 4th grade my classmates would fight over the Where’s Waldo books during recess. Yes we fought for books. We would get to leave by tables, and then one of us would run to the book shelf to grab it. I bet the people who banned these books don’t even understand the joy of running to read a book at recess. Or us listening to our teacher read the book outloud and us sitting on the carpet. I’m an avid read. I read roughly 3 books or more a week. Banning books hurts kids from learning the truth or just to expand their imagination. I’m glad I read all of these.
