Pretty cool graphic. Might be important to note that alot of that is desert; the Sahara is the size of the continental United States

Because the earth is round and maps are flat, maps cannot depict both the shape and the area of land masses accurately. The Peters Map above is an area accurate map of the world. The maps we usually see accurately represent the shape of land masses but not their area. They make northern countries look much larger than they actually are. I suspect that this graphic is an attempt to correct that impression.
Idiots. Africa is not a country. Neither is “Western Europe.” We get it, Africa is big. But it is a continent, morons, not a country. Please try again.
And to think we used to own most of that…. Ah, the glory days of empire.
The point is that maps skew the size of the Southern Hemisphere to make it look smaller. Greenland looks bigger than Africa in most maps. It’s showing the actual size of the continent. THIS ISN’T QUANTUM PHYSICS PEOPLE.
Dear 7th Grade Social Studies book, Western Europe and Africa are not countries. Thanks.
is Hawai’i or Alaska included with USA in this size comparison? doesn’t make sense that they would include sicily and sardinia with Italy but not Hawai’i and Alaska. but i like the concept of this graphic. the point is that on most modern maps today, the northern hemisphere, including the USA is made to look way larger than it actually is, and the continent of Africa often looks way too small.
Africa is just as big as you’d expect a giant land mass made of dozens of countries to be. Compare Africa to ASIA, not two Asian countries, some random others, and half (?) of another continent. And, size doesn’t really matter. Indian and China together hold about 1/3 of the world’s population. Postin’ from America
