Summer's Surprise Success: Reality TV Star Returns As Latin Pop Star

Jason Rosell Brought "Heat" to Vh1 and MTV Reality Shows but Refused to Allow Flavor Flav's Sloppy Seconds to Have the Last Word. "Ayy Mami!"

    Ayy Mami - Jason Rosell

Before Jay-Z and Alicia Keys celebrated their hometown with "Empire State of Mind," Queens native Jason Rosell supported the Big Apple by proclaiming, "I Love New York" on Season 1 of the VH1 reality TV series of the same name. An immediate hit, more than 4 million viewers tuned in each week as Rosell (aka "Heat") and a forgettable tribe of other single twenty-somethings competed for the affections of "New York" (aka Tiffany Pollard). Rejected by the "Flavor of Love" alum, "Heat" high-tailed it over to MTV where he fist-pumped his way through "I Love Money 1 & 2" -- a trailblazer for the likes of Pauly D, "The Situation" and Vinnie. After bidding farewell to his music channel family, Rosell escaped the reality TV curse by transitioning quickly to scripted shows highlighted with a recurring role on ABC's hit daytime soap, "All My Children" as well as a lengthy run on Telemundo's popular primetime series, "12 Corazones." Offscreen, Rosell maintained his schedule for the gym, tanning and laundry, but was also quietly escaping to the recording studio and pursuing his lifelong passion for music -- a talent that few knew he had.

    Until Spring Break 2013.

Rosell made his music debut with the release of the infectious Spanglish dance single, "Caliente" that quickly became an anthem this Summer in danceclubs around the world. Rosell silenced critics when the dance/Latin-pop track quickly raced up the charts and "Caliente" peaked at #2 on the indie dance/Latin-pop charts. The "Caliente Club Remix" released in July. Rosell's second trending single, "Ayy Mami," from his forthcoming EP, "Caliente" also debuted strongly this week with a music video featuring DJ VTrixx showcasing her "shimmy" expertise as noted under "Skills" on her resume.

Six years after the 15 minutes for "Heat" passed, the former reality TV staple has truly come full circle with single twenty-somethings now competing for his affections, but there are no cameras from Vh1 or MTV in-sight. Yet.
