I just hate the fact that people are so uneducated about the samples in this genre. Once I was listening to Daft Punk and someone said “I love Kanye West!” I then had an argument about “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” NOT being Kanye's creation. I don't mind sampling, so long as the listeners are educated and are aware that it is, in fact, sampling. It is weird though, hearing the songs I love being sampled, and having them be given an entirely different meaning. It sucks that they are usually ones that I don't agree with. =(

Still don't like Kanye, but now I have a new list of songs to listen to!

I've always been a fan of the samples Kanye uses. He is by no means a thief and in more than half of these samples he's paying homage to the original artists. He has never claimed that he didn't take the samples from othe artists. Hearing how he uses and edits the samples shows you how much of an artist he really is…so what if he didn't find every single sample in his own? He still turned it into a whole new creation

Thief? Oh hell no. He gives a great new life to the songs he samples. And he frequently makes tribute the songs he uses. 'Stronger', for instance, is named after its sample and features the original artists in the video.
Plus, his ability to use songs of all genres and time periods is a testament to how musically talented he is.

Everyone samples. Just the mere fact that Kanye does it doesn't mean he's a theif. Hell, most of the uses of these samples are genius. I mean, who else would think to use a string orchestra on a song called “Robocop”?

amazing and vast taste in music, as well as the ability to take that and create something new out of it is a sign of geniusness, i like his style and i like his music

It's not like he's copying them and pretending he's not.

Imitation is a good form of flattery until everyone single song you put out there is a play on someone else. That is when imitation is suicide.

this is why Kanye is one of the best producers ever, I know his behaviour is less than desirable but you can't front that he does amazing shit with his beats. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery… and while he does use other people's songs, he always, always makes them his own.

Okay, I would call him a thief, but i doubt he is 100% responsible for the production of his songs. I'm thinking that the studio people have a hand in adding all this extra music to make it instantly recognizable. The easiest way to make a #1 hit is to mesh it with an already well known hit. I know that Kanye thinks he is a supreme being also known as god, but I doubt his musical pallet is that diverse. I would give entire sampling credit to all the old men in the studio.
