We can’t tell you how many profiles we see that are under-exposed, blurry and just downright unflattering. Okay, taking a profile picture can be hard,it’s true but YOU CAN DO IT. Take off the sunglasses, turn on some light or better yet, a bright window. It’s up to you to put your best face forward!

Your “About Me” Section Scares People

So, you’ve been out of the dating game for a while, you forget how this whole thing works. It’s overwhelming. You want to be straightforward and honest, let people know what you’re looking for. So you put in your profile that you’re a sexy, sex-machine and give a detailed description of what you’d like to do to your potential partner. You think you’re being honest, unfortunately, you’re coming across as a sexual predator. There’s a time and a place for sexy talk your profile is neither. Same goes for your more unusual interests and ‘polarizing’ political views. Probably best to keep those things to yourself.

Fix it: Don’t get overtly sexual on your profile, it makes you look scary, not sexy. Also: keep politics, religion and any agressive statements off your profile. Remember: you’re trying to appeal to people, not scare them off.

You're Kinda Boring

Your entire profile is less than 90 words and 70% of them are “umm….I dunno”. Quick tip: if you’re bored reading your profile, other people definitely are too.

Fix it: Mention some of the things that interest you, specifically. Go beyond ‘stuff’ ‘things’.

You Wrote A Profile Novel

So you wanna be a writer? Great! Get a blog. Your online dating profile is not the ideal venue to share your 2,000 treatise on…anything really. Keep your info to a minimum. Again, enough to get them interested without overwhelming them.

Fix it: Keep your profile brief, tell people the key points about yourself but leave them wanting more. This way you pique their interest so they have to message you.
