    Is Anne Hathaway Getting Divorced?

What's the truth behing the 'oscar curse' and what does it mean for your relationship?

An Academy Award is the highest honor an actress can receive but for many, it comes with an unforeseen cost. Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Halle Berry, Hilary Swank, all of these actresses were divorced within a year of receiving their oscar. Consequently many have since dubbed this relationship phenomenon: the Oscar curse. It's the ultimate example of women's conflict between professional and relationship success and it pretty squarely indicates that you can't have both. What makes these celebrity break-ups all that more poignant is that they tend to happen after the actresses have effusively thanked their husbands for love, support, etc.. in their acceptance speeches. Halle Berry in her win, thanked her husband, "the joy of my life" Reese Witherspoon thank her husband " for loving me so much" and last night, after winning Best Supporting Actress, Anne Hathaway made a point to thank her husband saying: " by far an away the greatest moment of my life was when you walked into it".

The message beneath the 'oscar curse' phenomenon is not just that women can't have it all but that they're foolish for even trying. To some extent, when we talk about the 'oscar curse' we're talking about a way to blame a woman for her professional success, to knock her down a peg. The fact that many of the so-called victims like Witherspoon, Bullock and Berry's divorces were a result of some pretty public cheating scandals just furthers the point that as a woman, your success will lead your man to stray. In contrast, men like Best Picture winner director Ben Affleck and Daniel Day Lewis are rewarded for their displays of emotion with steadfast partners and continued success.

So what does this tell us about the Oscar curse? While most of us aren't celebrities, there are still some things that can be learned from their mistakes. While these lessons may not always be kind, it's important to note that for now, women have a thornier path to walk when it comes to balancing personal and professional success and also, why dating an actor, artist or other form of celebrity may not be your best bet for enduring romance.
