Warped Wrap-up

My favorite five photos I shot at this past year's Warped Tour in Orlando, FL.

5. John O'Challaghan

I have had the fortune of shooting the band The Maine before, and on many occasions John O'Callaghan has dawned an interesting item of clothing. Weather it be a shirt that said 'I Met God And She' s Black,' or this button 'John'O Loves The C***.' No matter what it is it always makes me laugh.

Warped Tour is a crazy and exhausting day. Not just for the people that attend it, but also my camera. Yes that's right my camera needs a break every once in a while and right after I took this photo it decided to take a nap. Not only had my battery overheated, but also my memory card completely stopped working. I was only halfway through the first song when it died. I was worried half to death that A) I wouldn't have any usable shots and B) My camera wouldn't pull it together before the next band went on. Fear not I got the shot and my camera did finally cooperate.

Fun Fact: If a band is having fun on stage then 9 out of 10 times I'm having a good time in the pit! This will probably always be one of my favorite photos.

2. Telle Smith

One of my all time favorite shots to get are the ones where musicians interact with the crowd. For this shot I had been warned that Telle was going to be jumping in the crowd, but I just wasn't prepared to become a part of a mosh pit including other photographers and security. I honestly didn't know if I would get something as half as good as this because I shot overhead and I kept getting pushed every two seconds. Just goes to show that even though the photographers are in front of the barricade and out of the crowd we still get just as rough as the moshers.

1. Mike Hranica

And my absolutely favorite shot I took at Warped Tour is of Mike Hranica from The Devil Wears Prada. It's very rare when I know that a photo I have just taken will be perfect until I get a better look at it on my computer. But with this shot, before I even got to see it on the preview screen on my camera, I knew I had something special.

Remember how I said my camera had died, well I got it to start working just minutes before this happened. I was still putting my camera together in the pit. Right as it started to work Mike knelt down on the stage and put his head down.

I could get all artsy about this photo and talk about how ascetically pleasing it is to the eye, but that's not the reason I love it. I think shows a real emotion and true moment for a musician on stage.
