The Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks have been arguably the best quarterbacks of any franchise in NFL history. You don't win five Super Bowls without having elite quarterback play. Some of these quarterbacks were mobile, accurate, and called their own plays. Others couldn't "win the big one." So let's dive right into it. The five best quarterbacks in Cowboys history are as follows:

    5. Don Merideth

Merideth was the Cowboys quarterback when they were just getting started. He was the teams quarterback when they lost back to back Championship games to the Green Bay Packers in 1966 and 1967. He would get heavily outplayed by quarterback Bart Starr in both games. Merideth had a great career for a third round selection but he only started 85 career games and doesn't match-up well enough against other Cowboy greats.

    4. Tony Romo

Romo is easily the best Cowboys quarterback ever, statistically. He has the most passing touchdowns and will soon have the most passing yards in franchise history. His career passer rating is 95.6. The problem is he doesn't have a playoff resume. In four playoff games he has one playoff win, a 59.26 completion percentage, and just four total touchdowns. Sorry that just doesn't compare to past greats.

    3. Danny White

White couldn't "win the big one" but he was still a great quarterback. It was extremely tough because he had to take over after Roger Staubach. What made White so good is that he was elusive. He could pass and punt the ball. You never knew when it was going to be a fake play. White punted 610 balls for the Cowboys. White would go on to win six playoff games as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, but unfortunately lost three NFC Championship games.

    2. Troy Aikman

Clearly without a doubt Aikman is top two. He is best known for guiding the Cowboys dynasty to three Super Bowls in the early 90s. But that's what he did-guide. It was more Emmitt Smith's team than it was Aikman's. Aikman didn't have a huge responsibility with Smith leading the NFL in yards and touchdowns on a yearly basis. In 1993, Smith held out the first two games and the Cowboys started out 0-2. Needless to say Aikman did win a Super Bowl MVP, 11 playoff games, and is one of the most clutch quarterbacks of all time playing through many injuries.

    1. Roger Staubach

Staubach actually has a higher passer rating(83.4) than Aikman(81.6) did, which is very impressive considering he played an entire decade earlier. He would win 12 playoff games while winning two Super Bowls. He was a great mobile quarterback as well. He had the ability to extend plays and win games with his feet as well as his arm. Staubach was the original comeback king with his late game heroics. Staubach would throw for 20 touchdowns in a season three times, Aikman once.
