17 Winter Struggles Only Canadians Parents Can Truly Understand

    We feel your pain.

    1. Getting your toddler into the snow pants, winter coat, neck warmer, toque, gargantuan winter boots, and FINALLY their mittens... Only to be told, "Mama, I peepee."

    2. Speaking of mittens: They refuse to stay on.

    3. Taking your little one to the park in their new winter ensemble and having to watch them stumble around like an abominable snowman.

    4. Not being able to put your child in their carseat in a winter coat. BUT IT'S LIKE -45°, SO WTF.

    5. The fact that carseat ponchos cost about $75.

    6. Being in constant doubt and worry over whether your stroller can make it over the ice-hewn sidewalk.

    7. Protecting your precious from the cold by dressing them in the recommended extra layer, only to watch their cheeks go red and beads of sweat roll out from under their toques.

    8. When it's actually just TOO BLOODY COLD to take your kids outside so you have no idea what to do with them.

    9. With winter comes the holiday season. With the holiday season comes remembering that you needs gifts for the daycare provider/ teacher/other kid's teacher/ballet instructor/hockey coach/etcetcetcetcetc.

    10. When your other half isn't home and you're forced to strap the baby in the Ergo so that you can shovel the driveway.

    11. When Daylight Saving Time ends.

    12. Buying an entirely new suite of snow gear for your child EACH AND EVERY YEAR. Because apparently kids grow. A lot.

    13. The juggling act that is warming up the car, getting the baby in the car seat, and scraping ice off the windshield — all without the baby having a total meltdown.

    14. The choice of bunting vs snowsuit.

    15. Trying to get your kid's feet into their still-damp winter boots.

    16. When those white inserts come out every time your child takes off a boot, and you have to smoosh them back in. Every time.

    17. And finally, buying really cute baby outfits only to have them covered up by a fuzzy "bear" bunting bag when you go out.
