Shocking, certainly. But to what effect?
The :30 spot was shot in one day at the Freemont correctional facility in the Canon City prison complex. Several inmates were interviewed to find the right offender for the spot. It’s for Blue Sky Bridge, a local child abuse prevention and intervention organization. The commercial was created to help teach parents how to protect their children from sexual abuse. But what does it teach them except what they already know—that there are sick fucks out there.
The only thing it makes me think about is that rocket man is going to be on the hunt again in a few months/years.

Absolutely tragic family experiences and experiences of friends have taught me that the skeeviest incidents occur when you leave your child in the care of someone that you know well and think you can trust, which is a thousand times more horrifying than this clip.

This is some “stranger danger” bullshit. I once worked for an appellate court that saw lots and lots of child sex abuse cases. These were all convicted child sex abusers who were appealing their convictions. Here’s the important part: None of these men were strangers to their victims. They were fathers. They were cousins. They were uncles. They were RELATIVES. Yes, there are men in vans offering candy to kids at the playground just like you once saw on TV. But those offenders are a distinct minority. The people who sexually abuse children are people who are CLOSE to the children already. They are not strangers. They are not the weird guy at the hobby shop, or the too friendly teacher… …they are your family members. Commercials like these do a disservice, because they paint an unrepresentative picture of the actual threat/danger. Don’t worry about the guy at the park. Worry about the guy watching TV on your couch.
