Make squinty eyes faces and flip off photographers at the opening of the first A&F brand store in South Korea.

“Netizens have reacted strongly to…images of models making “squinty eyes” faces, flipping their middle finger to photographers, and mocking Asian pronunciation of English…on their Twitter accounts. Major Korean newspapers covered the scandal, as online comments called for a boycott and promised to return clothing they had bought.
One of the models tweeted about his squinty face:
“Hahahaha they ruhhvvvv itttt!”
But then, this is a pretty accurate brand representation.

Also, I don’t understand why people think doing the eyes/teeth thing like Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany is “just a joke” and not racist. And finally, Hollister paints the most inaccurate representation of SoCal beach culture I’ve ever seen. Starting from the fact that Hollister is not even in Southern California. And is 100% landlocked.

Oh my god. Will people PLEASE stop using the “That’s racist!” card. Okay, fine. What those models did was insensitive, but South Koreans painting themselves as tolerant saints is just as wrong, too. Wake up world, everyone discriminates. Some people just can’t take what they give out.

this is disgusting but sadly not all that surprising to me. This company has been pretty consistent in its discriminatory and racist behavior despite numerous lawsuits. It’s even more upsetting to me to see so many Asians shopping at these stores when they’re clearly considered subhuman by this company.

THERE'S WAFFLE IN 'EM 9 months agoIn case you guys didn’t hear, A&F is in a world of financial hurt right now. They’re becoming increasingly irrelevant in the fashion industry because they simply haven’t changed since the mid-1990s. They’re closing almost 200 stores over the next couple of years after closing nearly a hundred over the past year alone. As a retail business nerd, I’d fire the dude in charge (it’s the same guy who has been heading the company since the inception of the beefcake shit) and bring in some new blood. A&F is quickly becoming stagnant and Hollister only ate away from their market share (and cheapened the brand) by essentially selling the same merchandise as A&F but for less money. People are wising up to that. Rant over. It doesn’t have much to do with the picture, but hey.
