Kendrick Lamar Disses Drake

Kendrick Lamar's scathing verse on Big Sean's "Control" left many hip hop fans wondering who would step up to the plate and respond. While most of the people he called out remained quiet aside from a tweet or interview response here and there, Joe Budden ,Cassidy and Papoose,all retaliated on wax. New York's Joell Ortiz, who was not mentioned on "Control", shot back with his own "Outta Control."

Lamar has gone on the record to explain the verse in "Control," saying, " At the end of the day, there are gonna be cats who are trying to make it a rivalry. That's old school homie. We're Black men out here trying to uplift the culture."

...I wasn't worried that it would affect relationships. At the end of the day, if you listen to the line, these are cats that I feel can inspire the game and they aspire to be the best just like I feel I aspire to be the best. If they're competitive and they respect the culture, they shouldn't feel like there should be any type of ill feel that you have towards it, you know ...It's rap man and people I respect know that I respect em and the whole point of the culture is to elevate it at the end of the day. - From an interview with Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg

But after responding to questions about Lamar's verse by saying, "It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That's all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick's not murdering me, at all, in any platform, " in a Billboard cover story and, "Kendrick's verse was a moment. It was really cool for a couple weeks. But are you listening to it now? How does that verse start?," during a CRWN series interview at NYU - it was Drake who earned himself a second round in the ring with Lamar.

Known for his soulful brand of hip-hop, Drake is not exactly what you would call a battle rapper, and riding high on the success of his album, "Nothing Was The Same," many in the hip hop community don't think the OVO rapper will respond at all. While just a snippet of Lamar's cypher verse was released, it is clearly directed at Drake.

Nothing's been the same since they dropped 'Control' / And tucked the sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes...Pin the tail on the donkey, boy, you've been a fake.

Lamar was an opening act, along with A$AP Rocky, for Drake's Club Paradise tour last year, and they were both featured on A$AP's track, "F**kin Problems."

It will be interesting to see if Lamar calls out any of the other rappers who have responded to the "Control" verse or if he's directing his wrath towards Drake alone.
