7 Cool Facts About York University!

Here are seven facts about York University in Toronto, Canada, that you may not know!

1. York University, established in 1959, is now Canada’s third largest university

York University has well over 55 000 students currently enrolled.

2. The Health, Nursing, & Environmental Studies Building is actually the former location of Schulich School of Business

Schulich made the move to its new building in 2003.

3. Glendon was the first York University campus, and was actually purchased for $1 from the University of Toronto!

It is now not only one of York University's nine college, but the only university campus in Canada to specialize exclusively in Liberal Arts in more than one language. 4. Various Movies & Television shows, such as The Time Traveller’s Wife (2009), American Psycho 2: All American Girl (2002), and “Free Fallin’, Parts 1 & 2,” were filmed at the Glendon Campus

Glendon is located at Bayview ave. & Lawrence ave. When Glendon was inherited by the University of Toronto, it was stated in the will of the previous owner that no building can be built above the trees - still, to this day, no building at Glendon can be more than three stories.

5. Every year that York University has been open, it has had some kind of construction going on

Basically, the university is always changing! This photograph was taken last year of the construction at York Lanes - the new entrance to York Lanes is now finished, so make sure to come check it out!

6. York University has been listed as one of Canada’s greenest employers for 2013
