10 Mistakes We Always Make When Moving House

Moving house is one of the most stressful times of our lives and it's no wonder really. You have to pack all your items, find a good moving company and make a ton of other arrangements. There's just so much to remember and not enough time. It's likely you will make some mistakes along the way and here they are:

1. Not Doing Your Packing In Advance

OMG the movers are coming tomorrow and I still haven't even started yet.

How much time can packing really take? You just get all your stuff and throw them in boxes, right?

WRONG!

If you don't pack your items properly you're likely to find some of them, if not most, broken. So get packing while there's still time.

2. Not Being Reasonable About The Size Of Your Furniture

"We don't need to hire a man with a van, we can fit everything in our car".

You've probably said that to your significant other plenty of times just to find out you've been wrong all along. Sucks to be you.

3. Not Being Reasonable About Your Own Skills

There's a reason why people hire movers. It's called safety.

Not too keen on safety? At least watch some videos on how to properly move bulky items.

4. Forgetting To Declutter

You will never know how much stuff you've collected over the years until you have to pack them all in boxes.

Frankly, the easier option is to sell or give away the items you haven't used in the past year. Chances are you won't need them anyway.

The less you have to move, the better.

5. Moving During The Weekend

It's so much easier to move during the weekend when you're out of the office. The problem is you're not the only one who came up with this brilliant idea.

What happens next is you end up in a traffic jam for hours to no end. If you live in London you probably know you get charged by the hour for moving services. So, you not only have to pay more, but you also have to waste more time on the road.

Would be so hard to take a day off on Wednesday just to avoid all this hassle?

6. Overfilling Boxes

It's tempting to put as much items as possible in one box, but if you do that you will make it too heavy.

Probably even Superman wouldn't able to lift them, so don't do it, ya hear!

7. Not Disassembling Your Cupboards and Dressers

You don't have to do this, but it will make you move much easier.

8. Forgetting To Inform Institutions of Your Move

The institutions are too many to name. Just check out this list of who to inform of your relocation.

9. Trying To Move Everything In One Trip

It's always cool to move everything in one trip.

However if your vehicle is too small or you never managed to get rid of all your junk, you'd probably have to make a second and maybe a third trip until you've moved everything.

10. Taking Your Kid With You

The title doesn't suggest you leave your kid behind, but rather to find a baby sitter for the moving day. It will be better for both you and your offspring if you do.

If you're moving to a different area and this is not an option, pray to God your move goes as smoothly as possible.
