    Top 10 Spanish Shakira Songs

Because this señorita is twice as sexy in her native tongue

    10. Loca - Shakira ft. El Cata

    Album: Sale El Sol

    English version: Loca

The Spanish is kind of mental... she says she's crazy with her tiger and it's questionable whether this version is actually better than the Dizzee Rascal one... either way Shakira is super sexy and does some pretty 'loca' dancing in the video...

    9.

    Album: ¿Donde están las ladrones?

One from the early Shakira days - in the video she has straight black hair and is incredibly mournful - understandable considering the subject matter and the fact that it was released in the late 90s.

    8. Octavo Día

    Album: ¿Donde están las ladrones?

Another from Shakira's second album, Octavo Día is her first song expressing her opinions about God. On her 'Tour of the Mongoose' tour, the song caused controversy due to the political commentary in the backdrop to the song.

    7. Ciega, Sordomuda

    Album: ¿Donde están las ladrones?

The lead single from 'Donde' is a poppy, upbeat number that describes the clumsy, hypnotic state of being in love. And the video is classically 90s, which makes it even more brilliant.

    6. Día Especial - Shakira ft. Gustavo Cerati

    Album: Fijación Oral, Vol. 1

Día Especial is an easy listening track, which really showcases the smooth tones of Shakira's voice and celebrates opportunity and optimism. Unsurprising, given the title.

    5. Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango)

    Album: Laundry Service

    English Version: Objection (Tango)

This song is far more well known in the English, mostly due to that Pepsi ad. But I think the Spanish highlights the tango-ness of the song a lot more and ultimately the song sticks.

    4. Ojos Así

    Album: ¿Donde están las ladrones?

    English version: Eyes Like Yours

Hands down, one of my favourite Shakira songs. Well duh, we're in the top 4 now. But Ojos Así - and it's English counterpart - are top notch Shakira tunes. The song draws from Arabic influences and features necessary Shakira belly dancing. Additional fun fact: the translation and writing of the song was done in part by Gloria Estefan!

    3. Rabiosa - Shakira ft. El Cata

    Album: Sale el Sol

    English Version: Rabiosa

Truth - I hate the English version with Pitbull. Can't abide it. That might be because Pitbull frustrates me to no end (throwing in a few repeated Spanish phrases doesn't make your song Spanish!) But, more likely it's because I prefer El Cata's vocals and the sultriness the Spanish creates, given that it's a song about sex appeal. Warning: the video is not for the faint hearted, it features a pole dancing Shakira.

    2. Sale El Sol

    Album: Sale El Sol

The lead single from the eponymous album, Sale El Sol is reminiscent of Shakira's earlier work in that same folky, upbeat, positive way. And the lyrics are to die for... how can you compare 'y un día después de la tormenta cuando menos piensas sale el sol' (and one day, after the storm, when you least expect it out comes the sun)?

    1. La Tortura - Shakira ft. Alejandro Sanz

    Album: Fijación Oral, Vol. 1

My favourite, favourite (hint, that's why it's number one.) The combination of the Latin pop/reggae sound, Alejandro Sanz and Shakira, and the powerful lyrics make this song pretty much perfect. It brings me back to my Spanish exchange every time I hear it. It tells the true torture of relationships and cheating, but at the end of the song our Shakira gets one for the girls and tells Alejandro she's not wasting any more tears on him. Get in girl. Oh, and the video features Shakira dancing erotically in black paint. Don't say I didn't warn you.
