The UK Election Already Happened Eight Months Ago In New Zealand

It was dubbed the most unpredictable election in decades. If only someone had asked the Kiwis.

No one had a clue who would win the 2015 UK election. No one except all of New Zealand.

It turns out the UK election had already played out - eight months earlier - in the land of sheep and hobbits.

New Zealand had its general election in September last year. Commentators predicted a close race.

But, in a surprise result, the centre-right Government party romped home...

...and actually increased their number of seats in Parliament.

Meanwhile, the main opposition party - which is called Labour - got savaged...

    ...performing much worse than expected...

    Oh. Wait. Wrong guy.

    ...and prompting headlines like these:

    Familiar?

The Green Party – which has an Australian leader – returned to Parliament with the same number of seats.

    And a staunchly anti-immigration party...

    ...ahem...

...led by a charismatic MP who was previously part of the major centre-right party...

    Nope. Not him.

    Him.

...made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The Prime Minister, a multi-millionaire maybe-reptile, promised New Zealanders they were "on the cusp of something very special."

    Um.

I guess it's only a matter of time now before Eminem sues the Conservative Party.
