sockela 10 months agoI have a nerdy friend who is much smarter than me. Here is his response…in full: I call bullshit on so many of these items.
First off, the batsuit costs $300,000. They tell you that in the first movie. That’s without enhancements that were made to make it more lightweight which DESTROYS her batsuit estimates.
Secondly, the cowl was sent in pieces and parts by Chinese suppliers and they had to order 10,000 to get the discounted prices and not to raise suspicion. They then created it themselves. They had to order a second batch as the first 10,000 were defective. Either way, I’m not sure if that means that price is accurate, but, boom, more information.
Third, tumbler for $18 million? The regular Abrams Tank cost nearly $9 million. And I think it’s safe to say the level of sophistication, weaponry and sophistication is a little more than a $9 million upgrade.
Fourth, batpod at $1.5 million. Shenanigans. First off, it’s not a separate vehicle until it was detached as an escape pod from the Tumbler. So frankly, it should be included in the Tumbler cost. However, let’s take it separately. It has similar cloaking and technology advancements that we already considered worth more than $9 million when examining the Tumbler. It’s firepower can apparently TAKE OUT A TANK. Which means it has the equivalent of a Javelin or Hellfire Missle which are $80k a piece. So just ten of those rounds (or replicated examples thereof) would cost over half of the projected $1.5 million price tag. Psh.
Fifth, the bat. $60 million. The comparison was to the V-22 Osprey. Accordingly to 18 seconds of research (I’m over estimating) it costs $69.2 million per Osprey and THAT ISN’T EVEN INCLUDING THE NECESSARY TECHNICAL RESEARCH, TESTING AND DEVELOPMENT FOR SUCH A PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. Add at least one more 0 to that total.
Sixth, Wayne Manor. I’m guessing that the insurance wouldn’t have covered EVERYTHING, but they do cover fire damage. Plus, he’s a billionaire 8 years ago when they were rebuilding the place, those costs are nearly insignificant. Running costs for Wayne Manor are $37k a year? Well considering most people pay $18k in a mortgage, I’m thinking the $37k might be grossly misrepresented. Apparently this hooker has never turned on her AC for 3 days straight. Or seen my Super Sweet Sixteen to see how much a birthday party would cost.
Seventh, I’m not going to break down each weapon separately, but no. Just, no. He’s not buying stock items for his arsenal. He doesn’t go to Gander Mountain to pick up new batarangs. These estimates are just silly. Eighth, Bruce Wayne is obviously very smart as he was attending an Ivy league school during Batman Begins. He could have very easily been there on scholarship. Plus, with the access to the modern Internet and the vast resources of his educational background growing up, the $500k figure for education could be completely overblown. Military Pilot and firearms training could be done overseas with guerrillas, since he apparently hired them to fly him through Hong Kong to get Lao in The Dark Knight, for what could be done at a relatively affordable cost. Or just the opposite, and it would cost him a small fortune for the privacy. But still, $500k is just a little too round for me.
So if I had to describe this article in a single word, it would simply be: Bullshit. -

KatieP11 10 months agoSo, I just watched Batman Begins last night (in denial about the series ending. DON’T JUDGE ME.) and a lot of this stuff came from the Applied Sciences division of Wayne Enterprises (the tank, suit, guns, belt, ect.) so it’s not like Bruce paid for all of that stuff out of pocket, even though Fox tells him it’s all technically his anyway. I realize I’m being nitpicky here, but it does affect the overall cost listed above.
