This guy can draw pretty well, I guess. Scottish artist Paul Cadden uses graphite and chalk to create these meticulously detailed portraits.

ladyluna55 a year agoWhat difference does it make if these were drawn from a photograph? Many artists do! I challenge any of you to do as well, with or without a photograph! I personally like that they look like a photo, it keeps you guessing!

joeb11 a year ago@nicolec19 I don’t know how you can say that the artist lacks “concept or thought” when all six drawings concentrate on human physiognomy, and five of the six drawings center around a poignant sub-theme: the faces of the very elderly. These are weathered faces, scarred by time. The artist’s subject seems to be no less than time itself, an abstract concept made visual with graphite and chalk. But there is also an understated strength on display here, too, a kind of ragged defiance. “I’m still here!” is the unspoken message. Three of these subjects meet our gaze directly, one seems to be looking past us, as if there’s something more interesting or important to our right, and the last gentleman seems to be alone with his own thoughts. Depicted against a hopeless black background, he cannot meet our gaze. His spirit seems to be broken as he nears the finish line. (I did not notice this at first, but that last drawing also contains a record of its own creation/making in the upper right hand corner!) If I were curating an exhibit of these drawings, I might choose a title like Integrity Versus Despair: Erikson’s Final Crisis.
