The days events got off to a quick start when the activists woke up very early to get a head start on RWE. 5am be like
Over 1000 activists left camp for the mine, in coordinated groups who were ready for action.
The activists had to move past the police to get to the mine. They sized each other up.
The police responded with violence despite the activists' deploying of de-escalation tactics.
Despite the hostility our activists managed to flow through police lines and into the mine. Our sources report that it went something like this:
People from all groups managed to get into the mine. Once there the activists set out about occupying the mine.
This was successful because the activists managed to completely stop the diggers, and the mine was totally prevented from doing any work for the entire day.
During the occupation the police surrounded many of the activists. It was not ideal.
Some of the activists were arrested but others managed to secure their freedom
In any case, the day was a success because we showed that people power can bring one of the world's biggest coal mines to its knees.
But most importantly, we kept that coal in the hole!
