It's not about trying to control the uncontrollables - like rape and rapists and murder and murderers. As sad and as unfortunate as it is, these things just happen. But I really don't think this will lead to women dressing like sluts and parading “around in seedy neighborhoods in the name of freedom and empowerment”. We're not idiots. It's about changing the way the law views rape. It's about making sure their efforts will do more to protect women rather than blame them or try and figure out how a rape could have been prevented through the actions and decisions of the victim. No matter how a victim acted, rape is just wrong, and women need to be able to trust that the law will treat them with respect and not judge them for what happened. Rape is traumatic, and the ramifications are long lasting. Telling a woman she was asking for it violates any kind of trust she could have in the people who are supposed to be 'helping' her. It's insulting, hurtful, and backwards, and that is what these women are protesting.
