China caught heat last summer for manufacturing toxic toys and now it’s in hot water again for exporting toys that are literally made of drugs.
The playthings contain a solvent that metabolizes into the party drug GHB when their “magic beads” are swallowed, as several unlucky tots in the US and Australia have done. They’ve been recalled, but the incident could offer a new gambit for drug smugglers who’ve been foolishly hiding product inside toys—just think of those dolls made of cocaine in the movie Traffic.
