The Canadians Re-Elect Conservatives

Canada held its own federal elections today and managed to re-elect Stephen Harper (arguably the Canadian George Bush) and his conservative party. posted It seems this was somewhat expected and that the best the non-conservatives were hoping for was to deny him a majority government. Here’s to winning by lowering your standards!

  • The Canadian “right” is closest to the US “left”. Canadian's have no equivalent to McCain or Bush. The US has no equivalent to Dion/May/Duceppe/Layton, except maybe Nader.

  • What the hell?? I hate Harper as much as most Quebecois, but everybody knows he's clearly no where near as extreme as Bush. Is this posting based simply on ignorance, or tried instead to be disingenuous about it? Gotta keep that PC rage in check man…

  • Harper the Canadian George Bush? Meh. George H.W. Bush, maybe.

  • “Canadian George Bush” is a big exaggeration. Canada is more like Europe when it comes to its political divide: “conservative” (big “C” or little “c”) isn't remotely as right-wing as it is in the States, at least not application (rhetoric is another story).
