Earlier this week, the theatre community was abuzz with the news of a possible Spongebob musical heading to Broadway.

Nic Rouleau as Spongebob Squarepants

Look at that cute face! If that doesn't scream Spongebob's level of enthusiasm, then I don't know what does. Rouleau, best known for his role as Elder Price in The Book of Mormon is an absolutely incredible tenor who can light up the room with his magical smile. Picture him taking the lead on the Act One finale "A Beautiful Day."

Josh Gad as Patrick Star

Gad is a master of physical comedy and has developed a knack for playing the most brainy but still beloved of characters (Here's looking at you, Olaf). Imagine his impeccable pipes as they belt out his Act Two motivational solo "Wumbo".

Kelli O'Hara as Squidward Tentacles

Squidward is the self-proclaimed unrecognized musical genius of Bikini Bottom. Kelli O'Hara is a theatrical darling, noted for her five Tony nominations without ever winning. Who better to channel Squidward's lack of recognition than the woman who pretty much all of the theatre community agrees has been robbed of her rightful Tony more than once. We can already hear her crooning "Squidward's Lament."

Kristin Chenoweth as Sandy Cheeks

Kristin Chenoweth is Broadway's beloved Southern girl. It's only fitting that the Tony and Emmy winner plays the rodeo-loving Texan squirrel. And Chenoweth is great at the over-the-top fight scene, which will fit right in to the showstopping number "Karate Kickline."

Tituss Burgess as Mr. Krabs

We've already seen Tituss Burgess as Sebastian the Crab in The Little Mermaid, so we know for a fact he can work the hell out of a crab costume. Plus, casting him would be able to play up the Disney/Nickelodeon rivalry. We can already picture his movin' and groovin' legs jamming out to "I Love Money & Money Loves Me."

Christopher Sieber as Plankton

Broadway fans already know and adore Sieber for his roles, including that of the pint-sized Lord Farquaad in Shrek the Musical, another musical that many scoffed at when news of it first broke, but ended up becoming very successful. As both Farquaad and Mrs. Trunchbull in Matilda, he's shown just how captivating he is as a ruthless villain. Give him the big power anthem "Rule Bikini Bottom" and let him slay the audience with it.

Julie Andrews as Mrs. Puff

Despite Sponegbob's shortcomings, Mrs. Puff is usually able to remain calm, but you can still here the deflation in her voice when something goes wrong. That's why Julie Andrews would be perfect! Remember all those times she got disappointed at Mia in The Princess Diaries? It's the same thing here, just underwater! The iconic star of stage and screen would naturally bring her touch of classy finesse to the musical.

Terrence Mann as Gary

Gary's known for his beautiful meowing. Who better than Broadway's original Rum Tum Tugger to play Spongebob's adorable pet snail? Answer: No one.

Kyle Dean Massey as Larry the Lobster

We know this side-character will be worked into the show, and though KDM has impeccable talent, this is honestly just an excuse to look at Kyle Dean Massey's shirtless body for an entire show. His ripped physique and natural charm is perfect synergy for the muscular and confident Larry. Imagine his perfect face and torso parading around during his big song "Living Like Larry."
