The Best Velomobile EVER Concieved! EVER!

What is the most viable personal transport vehicle? Bicycles are the most efficient vehicles ever made. Velomobiles are the fastest of the styles of bicycle. Electric or gas as an assist? Solar? Where do I carry my beer and how do I ensure it stays cold? All the answers to solving the current crisis of humanity.

1.) Some of the first velos.

The Velomobile has finally begun a renaissance. It has remained stagnant and forgotten for almost 50 years! Here are some modern considerations for such a valuable vehicle.

2.) Big Wheels = Big Momentum, little wheels = fast acceleration

3.) Retro Direct Drive

Basically, RTD allows you to pedal backwards up hill, or forwards, without ever changing from gear to gear. Most set ups have a 16T low and a 20T Hi gearing. No shifter is used. Some have increased gearing capabilities by adding crank gears and a two speed front derailur. By building on this concept you can have a retro direct drive that pedals as a standard, say 21 speed, on a small front wheel (direct/normal forward pedaling), and an UBER over drive 36er back wheel. 4.) Jackshaft Kit

Jackshaft kits allow both input from human power (you) and some type of assist, be it gas or electric on both sides of the wheel.

5.) Gas or electric? How about Hybrid!

With the cost vs weight debate over batteries, why not minimalize? There are many extremely light Radio Controlled motors used in model air planes that are 33cc to 50cc motors, plus 8 lbs a gallon in gas can very well compete with high end LiPo batteries. It is just a matter of getting Elon Musk to shell out some R&D for an alternator with the correct amperage......plus you have the ability to use either at their peek benefitial advantages. Mechanical motor has a quicker start/torque, and electrical motors have a higher top speed. (typically)

6.) You have to compensate.....

And a big chain ring doesn't hurt. Here is an excellent example of what I'm talking about. I wish I knew who these grand gentlemen are......Bigger gears = higher top speed. With a little engineering you can assist your assist. It can't do all the work. And besides we are talking about a little R/C gas Motor 33cc - 50 cc, that little fella can only do so much, so you need to be able to reach those higher RPM's to help out.

7.) Solar wouldn't hurt.

Since money is no cost for the BEST Velomobile EVER Conceived, why not through in some flexible solar panels, built into the lines of the body? They can help out with producing electricity for gadgets and cut down on the draw from the battery/capacitor.

8.) Maybe You Aren't Helping Out Enough?

Some made up statistic (by me) says that your arms are roughly the equivalent of a third leg. (We all could use one of those? Right Guys? Ha? You know what I mean? Ha? Get it?) Plus, although T-Rexs are cool, looking like one is not.

9.) What IS That Thing Made Out Of?

Weight vs Cost vs Strength? You can never have all three? Or Can you? We should remember the first bicycle was made of wood, and with the bamboo craze, maybe there is something there? Especially carbon fiber reinforced bamboo.

10.) It's Gotta Look Cool!

There have been some real eye sores out there in Velomobile Land. (This one not included in my opinion.) But the retro look is quite cool, and this photo goes to show that the café racer look is in like Flynn.

11.) Where Do I Put All My $&!#?

A lot of veolobists, (Is that a word? You know what I mean...) like to tour. Or they are environmentalists on the side, no matter who it offends. And, Hey, who doesn't like to camp? The Ultimate velomobile should be a cocoon of comfort. Who wouldn't like to tour RAGBRAI, self contained, tent ready (You are already laying down.), with room for a sleeping bag, a coffee pot, a grill (I've herd of cooking off an engine before), and a frig? You know, roughing it!

12.) MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: BEER

What's a nice ride, on a hot day, without a beer? A nightmare for some, and a disappointment for others. But to glass, or can, is the question? Cans are more durable, but glass is fragile' (That must mean it's Italian.) But a bottle usually tastes better and hold the cold better. This question remains to be debated...But a velomobile having a beer cooler of sorts is not! PEDAL PUB!

It's the little things that count. Ya Know? Look at this little hand job. If everybody built bicycles with some little hand jobs now and then, the world would be a better place......

14.) Universal compatabilty for Mass Commute!

OK. I might lose you here......What IF, what IF, you could connect a reasonable variety of bicycles together into one MASSIVE TRANSFORMER? I mean vehicle. If this Magical Velomobile from the future could lock in two or three bicycles, with the added befits of the MAXIMUS VELOMOBUS, you would have one bad ass rollin machine. A vehicle that would directly compete with cars. Plus, with the Velo up front, vastly improved aerodynamics for the whole train of bicycles would ensue. Just sayin.

15.) The Thingy Ma Jiggy

KERS. Look it up. It's basically a flywheel inside a vaccum, inside an enigma, inside a really expensive solid carbon-fiber flywheel. But they are really good at capturing the momentum lost during traditional breaking. So with the big giant wheel, and the big giant cranks, and the tiny little motor, and the electric motor, and little capacitor/battery,,,,,all these guys work (you and your arms two? too?) is not wasted into pointless lost momentum. It's saved for when you need to go up a hill, not for the start up from the stop sign. In order to do that you would need a universal transmission.....oh wait. #16......

16.) Universal Transmission/HUB, whatever....

Basically, an internal hub, like NuVinci's that will not only give infinite gearing for those crazy ass big wheel and crank, but the little wheels too. AND another great benefit is the ability to smoothly transition from gears. There is way less loss of energy (momentum) with one of these puppies, which can take those high or low RPM's from the KERS, MOTORS, and YOU.

17.) I Said COLD BEER! DAMN IT!

This is a Peltier Unit. It tastes electricity and moves heat from one side to the other. They are in most computers and portable fridges. They can cool around 30-40 degrees from ambient temperature. They can also heat as well as cool. A/C YAY! That would be nice in a Velomobile. They can also be combined to a mini radiator to make nice beer coolers for your friends and family that you love. For those that are haters......turn your hater into a heater.
