Alfred Date is Australia's oldest man at 109 years old and he loves to knit.

When he checked into a new aged-care home on New South Wales' Central Coast the nurses, knowing he could knit, asked if he would be interested in making up some woolen jumpers for penguins.

The call for jumpers went out almost a year ago after an oil spill left penguins cold and distressed.

The foundation no longer needs jumpers after the massive response, but Date no doubt still knows he made an impact.
