Childress's aggressive retaliation lead to his ejection from the match.

Since then, Childress has received a torrent of racial abuse on Twitter, leading to him deleting his account.

Childress tweeted this after the match, prompting more criticism on social media.

Only 1 week suspension for a disgusting blatant elbow. Seems clear who actually does run the league, hey @JChillin ?

@JChillin yes, you are a thug. Should be removed from the NBL for a season not just a week. Unsportsmanlike, cowardly and violent #BadSport

@jamessammut91 @JChillin From what I saw he tweeted to blame everyone but himself. Didn't even apologies to the player affected

American Josh Childress commits worst foul in NBL history and gets one game? Love to hear the tribunal's reasoning for that. #plseexplain

In a two hour trial, Childress was deemed not to be guilty of striking and bringing the game into disrepute.

He was instead fined a combined $7,500 for unduly conduct and publicly criticising the officials.

We are unsure if Wagstaff remembers the event...
