Amber Heard Could Face 10 Years In Jail For Allegedly Illegally Importing Dogs Into Australia

The actress says she will plead not guilty to illegally smuggling Pistol and Boo into the country earlier this year.

Amber Heard is going to defend the charges of illegally importing her two dogs, Pistol and Boo, into Australia, the actor said in a statement released by her lawyer.

In April Heard was accused by Australian agriculture minister Barnaby Joyce of sneaking her two dogs into the country while accompanying her husband, Johnny Depp, who was in town to shoot a Pirates of the Caribbean film.

It is alleged both Depp and Heard had evaded the health and biosecurity checks required for all animals entering the country.

In May, Joyce said the Australian government may have no choice other than to euthanise the dogs, if they didn’t “bugger off" back to America.

"Any animal which is imported without meeting Australia's import conditions will be ordered into quarantine and will either be exported or euthanised."

Depp retaliated by calling Joyce a "kind of sweaty, big-gutted man from Australia."

Heard faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $75,000 fine for violating Australia's intense biosecurity laws.

In September, Johnny Depp said he would "assault that man [Joyce]," so that he could join his wife in jail if she was prosecuted.
