Since breaking into the hearts of young girls across the globe on the X-factor in 2010, British boy band One Direction has since found a way to fill the stomachs of the world's poor as well.

The band, consisting of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, visited the underprivileged areas of Ghana in early 2013 while filming a video for their upcoming album. What they discovered shocked and moved them to tears.

"We all had moments. If you get involved in it and you don't cry, you're superhuman," Harry told British newspaper The Mirror.

The boys all agreed that although they had seen documentaries and promotions about the area and poverty overall, they were not prepared for the reality of it.

"We thought we knew what it's like," said Harry. "But when you're there and you get the smells, your eyes hurt from the smoke, you cough, you're feeling it all. It's crazy how quick you get connections with children and people who live there. You feel upset leaving them and saying goodbye to them."

This trip inspired the boys to make a difference and shortly after they decided to team up with Comic Relief, a UK-based charity that strives to eradicate global poverty, to use their celebrity status to bring global poverty to the publics attention.

Comic Relief's biannual fundraising telethon, Red Nose Day, centers on the stereotypical "red nose" of a clown, which is supposed to make people laugh while also bringing their attention to the issue of poverty. One Direction, being the clowns that they are, saw this as a great opportunity to use their charismatic boy band charm to raise awareness as well as funds.

They released Comic Relief's official charity single, a cover of Blondie's One Way Or Another which can be viewed above, in February 2013, donating all profits to Comic

    Relief.
