Eight Incredible Rescue Pet Transformations

We would like you to meet eight of the most incredible rescue pets to have passed through Blue Cross doors. Some have come from serious situations of neglect and horror but they’re inspirational little fighters - every single one of them.

1. Flush

Four-week-old Flush was miraculously unharmed after a chance rescue from a four foot deep basement drain. She was found by a kind builder who brought her into our animal hospital in Victoria, London. Despite her ordeal, Flush recovered quickly and we found her a happy new home.

2. Pilbury

Blue Cross

A puppy found abandoned in a south London park, starving and terrified, found a new lease of life after being nursed back to health at Blue Cross. When the starving pup first arrived we didn’t know if he’d survive. Weighing just 8.4kg he was well under the average healthy weight of 14kg for a dog of his age and type. But the little fighter, who we nicknamed Pilbury, battled his way back and, with the help of the team at our hospital, pulled through.

3. Boyd

When Boyd arrived at Blue Cross he was underfed, weak and infested with lice. The terrified pony’s muscles were severely wasted and he was riddled with worms. Boyd’s condition was so critical that the team at our Rolleston rehoming centre didn’t know if he’d survive. We treated Boyd’s lice and worms before beginning the long, uphill process of building up his strength and teaching him to trust people. He’s now waiting to find the perfect home.

4. Chewy

Six-year-old Chewy shed his locks and his Wookie looks after his Star Wars style made him a little warm. Little Chewy was such a hairball when he arrived – he was well overdue for a bit of a trim. We got rid of so much hair, he looked almost half his size! Chewy found a new home shortly after his makeover.

5. Dribbles

As soon as stray cat Dribbles arrived at Blue Cross, we noticed she was giving off a rather unpleasant smell and seemed very unhappy. A vet examination revealed three-year-old Dribbles had serious infections and tumours in both her ears, and she needed treatment urgently. After having the tumours and her inner canals removed, Dribbles recovered in a Blue Cross foster home and eventually found a new family of her own.

6. Hettie

Hettie was brought to Blue Cross after she was found wandering the streets. In a shocking case of neglect, Hettie was underweight, her muscles had wasted and she was suffering from benign tumours and a congenital eye disease. Despite this, Hettie showed staff at Blue Cross so much affection as they nursed her back to health. She now lives with a new family who give her the love and attention she deserves.

7. Dylan

Dylan was rescued by the RSPCA along with several other horses and ponies in January 2012. The ponies had been neglected and Dylan was riddled with lice and ringworm. He came to Blue Cross, along with three other ponies. While in our care, he was trained as a riding pony and he took everything in his stride. He has now been rehomed to a riding school and has settled in well.

8. Tommy

Tommy was in a horrendous state when he was found. He had pressure sores and urine scald burns on his limbs and was badly emaciated. When we found out about Tommy’s plight, the team at our Burford rehoming centre in Oxfordshire offered to take him in and care for him. Tommy has been through a tough time in his life and finds the world a little scary but despite this, he is very affectionate and loves cuddles. He found a new home with a Blue Cross team member.
