We all have the same ideas, Leaning Tower of Pisa edition.
I have passed on pictures taking opportunities before so I can have the memory of seeing it, not looking at it on my camera display. I have given into temptation plenty of times though.

took this shot a few years ago - when I had thesame sort of aha moment - “is technology really “connecting us?”
we like taking pictures on our cell phones
As someone who was there, I can attest that savoring the moment AND capturing it in pictures are far from mutually exclusive. Being a part of and so close to history, as well as the honor of celebrating this moment the entire world was watching, in only heightened by the knowledge that I took attached photo.
Get it? Because the guy who took the picture of the people taking the pictures took a picture. That makes it ironic. Or something.
Oh look I see a hypocritical post at buzzfeed…. and if everyone put their camera down, who'd be left to take this picture?
I agree. Everyone is going to have the same pics - why not just enjoy the moment and find somebody else's photos online? I was in Grant Park on election night and decided not to bring a camera for just this reason. This “everybody is a journalist now” bullshit is out of control.
How else are they going to create the 3,000 image collage for CNN?
