I feel like either a segment of the geek community has completely jumped the shark, or else I’ve just gone insane without realizing it. I love Lego and I love Star Wars, but why in the heck would someone want to be a Lego version of a Star Wars character? Why do people buy the nonsensical Lego versions of video games, like Batman or Star Wars or whatever? Legos are physical objects; you build things with them and play with them. It makes no sense to me to want to combine them with other genres outside of the actual little plastic blocks. Guess I’m just not even cool within the geek community any longer.
I never got Legos. I’d put them together and then just display them on my mantle. It’d get to the point where’d I’d bug my parents for fishing wire to hang the X-Wings and Tie Fighters from the ceiling. …I was a very strange child.
With this generation of man-children forcing our own immature tastes onto our children, have we entered a cultural loop? Are Transformers still going to be around when I die? Would Star Wars even exist if our dads hadn’t put away their Lone Ranger toys, instead forcing them on us to artificially extend their own childhoods?
