Laura Ingalls Wilder's Instagram: True Love On The Oregon Trail

A Little Love on the Prairie.

Remember when Laura Ingalls & Almanzo Wilder started an Instagram account about how they found love on the prairie?

Here's Laura's whole family on the Sabbath, when Mama and Papa said everyone was just going to braid corn silk while reading the Bible aloud and gut the cat to re-string Papa's fiddle before winter.

But really, Mama and Papa were setting the family up for Almanzo's flash mob proposal to Laura! Look at these two clowns.

Almanzo's selfie on the big day!

Almanzo hopped through the canvas window of the cabin, the whole family broke into a Calvinist hymn & dance number, and Mama snapped this candid of Laura's reaction.

As soon as they were married, Mr. & Mrs. (!!) Wilder struck out across the prairie in search of freelance gigs for wordsmiths-slash-candle-dippers and farming internships with $12/day subway transit stipends.

Mama's TBT on the day Almanzo's Zipcar got approved & they drove away in a covered wagon of their own.

The scenery of their honeymoon is actually amaze.

The prairie is basically an American safari - new cities, new wildlife, and new challenges every day.

Turns out there are a lot more rivers in the meadowlands than you'd think.

And hunting takes more than raw instinct.

But just when it seems to Laura and Almanzo that they have nothing in common anymore, another little surprise comes along.

Of course, not even the joys of childrearing are free of worry, woes, and simmering resentment.

Size up the situation they did.

Onward they continued, until they crossed the Big Blue River, a.k.a. the marital Rubicon.

The Wild West: Middle-aged, Newly Single, and Panning for Gold.

And Laura at last tallied the points she had received.
