10 Beatles Song Covers That Rival The Originals

Can you beat the classics? These covers definitely come close.

    1. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, "I Saw Her Standing There"

Taken from the Beatles Reimagined album, a collection of revisionist Beatles covers from American folk bands, this foot-stomping version of "I Saw Her Standing There" makes you think that maybe Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeroes are talking about a lady friend from a square dance? In any case, it's SUPER catchy. Where can I learn how to square dance?

    2. Colbie Caillat, "Here Comes The Sun"

Colbie Caillat is my guilty pleasure. Who else to better cover the sunny Beatles song than the ultimate surfer girl of the California sunshine? This version makes me happy every time I hear it.

    3. Lynden David Hall, "All You Need Is Love"

Taken from the greatest holiday movie of all time (that's fact, not opinion), Love Actually, this surprise rendition of "All You Need You Need Is Love" is the sweetest thing ever. Lynden David Hall totally made the song his own with his silky smooth delivery, choral backup singers and orchestral arrangement. I will now be severely disappointed if trumpet players don't start playing amid the guests at my wedding.

    4. Aretha Franklin, "Let It Be"

Aretha Franklin's soulful crooning gives this Beatles class the feel of a gospel song. Respect.

    5. T.V. Carpio, "I Want To Hold Your Hand"

No Beatles cover list would be complete without mention of Across the Universe. It's kind of like Mamma Mia, except instead of ABBA songs, it is all Beatles songs. The movie takes Beatles songs, and puts a whole different spin on them - T.V. It's a beautiful, wistful version of the song, filled with so much more emotion than the original, more upbeat Beatles version.

    6. Julia Nunes, "Her Majesty"

This is probably like the shortest Beatles song ever - just a brief 30 seconds at the end of the Abbey Road. Julia hits the sweetness and the sassiness of the song just right - "I wanna tell her that I love her a lot, but I gotta get a bellyful of wine."

    7. Ella Fitzgerald, "Can't Buy Me Love"

I've been on a jazz/swing kick lately, and it doesn't get any better than Ella Fitzgerald, one of the greats. What I love about this track in particular is that the Beatles were very precise in their playing and singing, whereas Ella plays around the timing of the song.

    8. Sarah McLachlan, "Blackbird"

The second that I saw Sarah McLachlan, the queen of the emotion ballad who moves grown men to tears with her SPCA commerical, I knew it was going to be good.

    9. Maroon 5, "If I Fell"

No words. Okay no, wait, five words: Adam Levine is a musical god.

    10. The Well Pennies, "All My Loving"

This is my all-time favorite Beatles song, and there are many, many covers of it out there, but this is the best. Also off the Beatles Reimagined album, the harmonies of this husband/wife duo put an indie pop/folk twist on this classic that you'll want to listen to on repeat.
