Black Rhino Is Airlifted By Helicopter To New Home

A helicopter hoists a rhino high above the tree canopy - by its ANKLES. The horned giants were airlifted from the Eastern Cape to a new home at a 34,000 hectares reserve in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa, as part of the Black Rhino Range Expansion Project. The project, a partnership between conservation groups including WWF and Eastern Cape Parks, was set up in 2003 - with the aim of increasing the population of the critically endangered black rhino by expanding its territory. Over the last decade, nine new black rhino populations have been created in South Africa, with more than 140 rhinos relocated. The rhinos awoke from their trip feeling groggy and confused - but were soon back on their feet and exploring their new home.
