College Myths

10 college myths I have learned.

1. College will be fun..

Everyone has a different college experience but in my case I decided to stay in my home town. So for now my college experience has been all work and no play. It has been a reality check and made me realize that college is something to take seriously it is not just about partying.

2. The Freshman 15

Everyone thinks since you are a freshman you are automatically going to get fat. First of all many students decide to workout, that is why we have a huge gym. Or if you do gain the 'freshman 15' you actually gain 15 plus 30 more pounds.

3. You will make many new friends..

Everyone is in their own little worlds and has no intention of talking to you or attempting to be friends with you. So pretty much if you do not live on campus or are in some sort of organization or sorority/ fraternity you will be stuck with the same friends that you had in high school or friendless in extreme cases.

4. FAFSA will give you all the financial help I you need. LOL

I was too lazy to apply to any scholarships so I figured fafsa would give me some money. Since everyone had told me that fafsa gave them a lot of money for college and they even had extra. To my surprise they did not give me anything. They just gave me loans. Which means I am most likely going to be in debt for the rest of my life :)

5. Your professors do not take attendance.

I always believed that college professors did not take attendance. The majority of my professors these past 2 semesters have taken attendance and even gave you extra point if you did not miss more than a certain amount of days. But there is others who will fail you if you miss too many days.

6. You think you know everything..

You think you have everything figured out and you lie to yourself so much that you start believing yourself. But in reality you are just a hot mess with a lot of growing up to do.

7. You have to know what you want to major in.

Everyone always freaks out and tries to rush things just so they can have a major picked out for college. College is a place to explore and figure out what you like so you can actually major in something you enjoy rather than something you just picked out just cause you need a major. Right now I have no idea what I want to major in.

8. You do not have to go to every class.

Everyone always makes it seem like you can just go to the classes you want to and then skip the ones you do not care for and you will be okay. But that is not the case, you do not want to miss any classes because each teacher says important thing that you can not get anywhere but if you attended the class.

9. College is only 4 years.

The ideal time to graduate college is 4 years but in reality it takes most people a few more years than that. The only way you will accomplish this is if you take summer classes and do a lot of extra work.

10. C's get degrees

While c's do help you pass your class you do not want to aim for that. If you just maintain a 2.0 not a lot of people are not going to want to hire you or accept your internship because you will just seem average and that you do not try hard. While they might get you degrees they do not get you jobs. It would also not be a good idea to have c's if you want to transfer.
