  • Post Privacy Age

    I am just a normal person that loves to use the internet Facebook, BuzzFeed and much more and I am simply asking the question do we live in a post privacy age. I think today everyone will agree that we live in a post privacy age in this age billions use sites like Facebook, Twitter and freely giving information to these companies so they can make a profit and most of these post made on these social networking sites are open to the public. Just try randomly typing in your name in to Google and see what pop’s up, you will most likely see a history of your Facebook post YouTube likes and much more. Just yesterday I typed my name in the Google “Balarama Lauder” I saw over ten pages about me Google even hinted the rest of my name I was not logged in to Google at this time and I was using a fresh web browser to get a fair result. I saw links to all my social networking sites comments I have made in the news awards I have received were I have lived even the darken photos from my college days it was scary. Most of the information about me was post by me. This is information I willing give to the world but ever day billions of people give up the same information making this available to anyone, anywhere to do absolutely anything with. At the same time we post billions of updates a day we see the government collect this information on mass to use in the fight against terror, as we are told but this information in the most cases are collected un-lawfully and without our knowledge. You hear our politicians say things like the law’s need to be updated to reflect the real saturation, we need to give up a little freedom for security this is the price we pay to live in the free world. But when the price we have to give up to protect freedom is our freedom what type of world do we live in, is one freedom grater then the other dose anybody even think the right to privacy is worth protecting anymore. I don’t know about you but this makes me think, I don’t know what to think anymore. On one hand we ask our government for protection and freedom at the same time. I think it’s about time everyone of us that can ask this question needs too for the ones that cannot for those that do not have the freedom. because we all know this question is not about privacy its really about the type of world we want to live in, do we choose freedom or security because what we choose will be the example for the whole world.

How the growing poor effects all of us in New Zealand, we have to ask ourselves what type of kiwi’s do we want to be are we going to put money first or people.   • OPEN LEATER TO NZ LABOUR PARTY

    I know like me most of us are within the party talking about the recent election and the leadership, let’s be honest it’s not the result we wanted and kiwis needed we all know the facts about child poverty the gap that bigger every year between the haves and have not’s and how our economy is going in the wrong direction leaving us wide open to a new GFC that’s just around the corner. have a read of a story form Forbes “12 Reasons Why New Zealand's Economic Bubble Will End In Disaster” and there are many more out the saying the same thing. So what does this mean simply put the National Party’s economic plan is going to fail big time the warning signs are ultra-low interest rate that property prices have doubled since 2004, we need to diversify our economy away from overinvestment in property and away from derry sectors. A one track economy will not help kiwis a will not not paint a nice picture and unless we see a change in direction in the next three years there will be nothing we can do to avoid a second GFC it’s simple boom and bust all over again. We as kiwis have lot’s going for us in our beautiful country, full of good people and we have some of the brightest minds and businesses in the world and the ability to achieve anything we put our hearts too. We have a great future but we need to all work for it, as members of the Labour Party it’s our duty we must be to keep these facts in mind when working together and remember why we joined the Labour Party We all want to make a difference for the good of all people in New Zealand I don’t know about you but I joined the Labour party because at our heart we are democrat and we believe in unique type of kiwi socialism. Where everyone no matter who they are will get a fair go, where people in business are are given the support to grow, everyone get’s opportunity and support to become the best the can be, we are a caring society and look after the and support downtrodden and support businesses and people to succeed. We need to become that example to the world again. In this time I think we need to remember unity and remember no matter what side of the fence on the leadership or any other issue. So let's make this processes a good thing let’s debate let’s reform and then let’s be an example of democracy and show all kiwis and the world how our New Zealand Labour can talk openly and make these decisions and still be united in our belief in a better New Zealand for all. 2017 the race is on...

  • Should Government Be Involved In The Free Market

    By Mr Balarama Lauder I was a member of the Labour Party for four years and before that working with the Green Party for the same amount of time. The time I spent at the Labour Party I set up and was chairperson of Young Labour Nelson, a member of the Nelson Local Executive and I was one of their respective to the part's AGM in 2012. Where I was the main speaker in support or the TPPA. As you can imagine speaking about free-market ideas and free-trade to the to the Labour Party at least I found not an easy task but in the end their repressive did vote for the TPPA once we talk and amended the policy idea. I have also studied economics and business for eight years in University and College. So here is what I think NZ Power will look like and some information on how it may work and some benefits to New Zealand. As far as I know NZ Power will most likely be set up as a government owned company that will buy power at the wholesale price and on sell this to the New Zealand public. NZ Power will need to work out its cost price that’s (fixed costs + variable costs) do this for all four quarters of the financial year, then take the average cost price then you times the average cost price by three and you will have the best point of sales to the public. That would cover NZ Powers cost expansion plans and a little profit. If the numbers are to be believed New Zealand power companies, market price is ten times the real cost price of the most expensive way we can generate power. You can see how this business model can make a profit, for the government and bring down the power the bill for the average Kiwi. NZ Power will need to play by the rules of the free-market this will mean no tax breaks or government subsides. Once NZ Power is set up the company wins or loses on its own merits those are the rules of the free-market. There should not be any government intervention on the rules of the free market. The government has the right to set up government owned companies that operates in the free-market. These companies should make a profit and they need to play by the rules. Some people believe that government should not make a profit but at the same time want a balanced budget less tax and more government spending on social services. You can see something will have to give. Is it more tax or spending cuts? But what if I told you there is a third a way where we can have balanced budget and at the same time not have the unpopular spending cuts. It’s to grow our economy that’s what most economist and business owners will tell you. The best way to get out of debt. Bring down unemployment and increase the government tax take is growth. The more income the government generates in the free-market the less tax we could pay in the long-term. This will give the government more money to spend on improving social services. But the government does not have the right to pick winners and losers in the free-market and needs to play by the rules and should never have that right. Thanks for reading.
