    Before we tell you which baby boy names are trending in 2014 and which names made it to the top 100 on Internet websites, let us take a moment to see what the feds have to offer us for which we are indeed thankful to them.

    As a parent to be, you are probably not required to watch every announcement a federal agency makes to keep its wheels spinning. However, at least one official announcement is sure to intrigue you. On May 9, 20-14, the US social Security Administration released its much awaited list of top 1000 baby names for 2014 thus initiating an annual discussion of baby names in the blogosphere which has kept many baby naming pundits busy for several summers in a row. This year's press release had a few surprises in that tradition continues to remain strong when it is time for parents to pick names for their little ones. But before we share our response not only to the list from the feds but also a few other popular lists which have emerged independently, a word on how to use this amazing government resource which dates back to 1879:

    When you visit the official SSA web page which is located on the agency's website, you will not see only a table, a chart or a list although other web pages on the agency's website do present some information in charts and tables. Enter the values in the various search boxes such as year and the total number of names you would like to see from 20 to 1000. You can also specify percent of total births as well as number of births in the year you have chosen. Enter all the variables and click the GO button for your very own customized list of baby names.


    Noah Tops the List for 2014

    As suggested earlier, Noah, as the most popular baby name for 2014, is deeply rooted in Biblical tradition. This is indeed the case with many other popular baby boy names as well such as Jacob and Daniel, which have also made it to the Top 10 American baby boy names of 2014. Other baby boy names with a Biblical affinity include Elijah, James, Matthew, David, John, Isaac and Luke, all of which have made it to the top 100.

    Other names from the SSA list include William and Alexander, also featured in the top 10 which can be traced to royalty and regal splendor.

    American Baby Boy names from the Internet

    Both Time Magazine and the Huffington Post have run stories this summer on the top 100 baby boy names which draw their list of names from leading http://babynology.com and will surely seem promising to you. The top 10 names from this list include Asher, Finn, Declan, Atticus, James, Oliver, Henry, Emmett, Owen and Django. A quick comparison of both lists reveals that traditional American baby boy names continue to remain ever popular among parents coupled with inspiration from Hollywood and sitcoms from Netflix. Django is inspired by Actor Jamie Foxx who played Django in "Django Unchained." Fin Hudson was played by Cory Monteith on "Glee." Declan Porter from "Revenge," Atticus Finch from the classic "To Kill A Mockingbird," and Emmett Cullen from the "Twilight" series are the other possible inspirations. Interestingly but not surprisingly, the two names that top both lists, Noah from the SSA list and Asher from the Internet list are both Biblical names and derive their inspiration from Christian faith.
