Ambient Dance Music For The Club Kids

"Like Reality" was released this past August, fusing dark ambient music with body pumping dance music.

Stephano Gavilanes released "Like Reality" this past August with 14 new electronic songs destined to play at the latest dance club. Although the album is within the electronic vein it's important to point out his songs are heavily influenced by not just dance music but ambient music too. Normally when I think of dance music, my mind goes to artists like Robyn where I can dance my butt off while screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs. "Like Reality" is NOT Robyn but the good news is the Gavilanes combo for dance music still works. Majority of the songs do live for the dance floor however an occasional track like "Normal Bias" clearly shows the strong ambience influence. "Like Reality" is more of a dance journey, transforming the space with each themed track.

The dance beats and lyrical choices of "Like Reality" remind me of the Ukrainian synthpop dance group, Kazaky. Kazaky is a great dance group and perfect for that 2am peak at the club, just like Gavilanes' latest album. When I listened to "Factory" I envisioned a laser light show, go-go dancers on podiums and a hot Miami strip or dance pumping NYC club. Although both Kazaky and Stephano possess a similar vibe, "Like Reality" is a bit more abstract due to its heavy ambience influence. Each song is themed and the album is more inclusive rather than separate individual tracks. This is heard specifically on "Normal Bias" as it showcases a dark ambient vibe.

If you want an album for your next glow stick dance party or a 3am club "pick-me-up" then stream Gavilanes "Like Reality" asap. The NYC based artist knows how to keep a party pumping with synthesizers, electronic drums and super abstract lyrics. You can keep up with Stephano by following him on facebook, twitter or regularly checking his website. If you liked the generous streaming of his album, then send him some love by buying his album on itunes.
