It's kind of amazing how thoroughly misconceived the general online impression of the 'hipster' manages to be considering how much easier it seems it would be to derive a proper iconography from the hipster's copious online record. Makes you wonder if our cultural perception of the 'hippie' must be exponentially more flawed, given the relative dearth of intercommunication between cultural subgroups at the time. Alternately, is it possible that inability to preserve shibboleths, the awareness of living under a magnifying glass, prevented the hipster culture from ever calcifying enough to project a coherent iconography to the culture at large?
