Moral of the story - here are the most important factors ranked from most to least:
1. Whether or not you are an attractive female
2. Whether or not you are overweight
3. Quality i.e. cost of the costume materials used
4. Professionalism of the photographer
5. Accuracy of the costume (i.e. what most people would assume to be most relevant) Not judging, it just evokes a cynical way of looking at things that probably takes some of the fun out of cosplay.

Or “Let’s all laugh at fatties and uglies and venerate the hotties”.

What we’ve learned today: Be an attractive girl, and use “cosplay” as just an excuse to wear skimpy outfits.

The best of these are truly excellent. The Worst force me to add an “ew!”

If a character is pretty and skinny, naturally a pretty skinny person will have the better cosplay. Cosplay isn’t just about making the best costume, it’s about looking like the character. Stop being so butthurt over pretty people getting attention.

Guess what? Models with professionally tailored costumes looks better than basement dwelling social rejects in costumes made out of felt and old bedsheets.

Not surprisingly, the best ones look mostly to be Japanese.

The problem isn’t just about pretty people getting attention, it’s about how good cosplay has been conflated with attractiveness. For example, #4(best) has far less to do with her character than #4(worst), she’s just hotter. For #10, the only real difference is the attractiveness of the girls. Maybe the hair color too, but meh.

The most tragic thing about this silly post is that all the normal looking/not super model-looking people actually are the bigger fans. Le sigh. The world is shitty.

How does any of this have to do with fandom or costume quality? It’s just another fucking beauty pageant Shame on you, buzzfeed. I expected more.

So as long as a hot chick or a guy that looks like a hot chick is dressed up as a character it is good cosplay? Thank you buzzfeed, I have learned something about the world of cosplay today.
