This Indian Billionaire Is Trying To Save The World

"If you have wealth, it's a duty to help those who don't."

Recognise this? Well, if you don’t, it’s a shot-sized energy drink called 5-Hour Energy and it's hugely popular in America, especially with college students during exam times.

This is Manoj Bhargava, the founder and CEO of 5-Hour Energy. His net worth is estimated at around $4 billion, which possibly makes him the richest Indian in America at the moment.

And he’s decided that he wants to spend his fortune to try and fix the world’s biggest problems, primarily depleting energy resources.

Bhargava, who was born in Lucknow, claims to have developed a stationary bike that would power millions of homes that lack electricity, worldwide. He plans to start distribution in India early next year.

In a short film uploaded to YouTube, Bhargava claims that he'll ship 10,000 of his free electric battery-equipped bikes, and explains that with just one hour of peddling, they'll each keep lights and basic appliances on for an entire day.

He says that it's simple, and would only cost $100 to make, and a bicycle repairman anywhere in the world would be able to fix it.

The first 50 bikes will be released for testing in 15-20 small villages in Uttarakhand before the first major rollout set to happen early next year.

Bhargava doesn't want to stop there. He plans on figuring out a way to make saltwater drinkable, enhance circulation in the body, and secure limitless amounts of clean geothermal energy.

"If you have wealth, it's a duty to help those who don't. Make a difference in people's lives, don't just talk about it," says Bhargava in the video.
